One Campus, Three Related Businesses
Jane's Dough Foods
Named after Jane Grote Abell, Jane’s Dough Foods was established in 2008 to mass produce consistently excellent dough and pizza products. Having recognized that the pizza manufacturing industry was focused on speed first and quality second, the company instead built on its history and culture to deliver better tasting products with quality as the primary concern. Sharing its headquarters with its parent company, Jane’s Dough Foods is growing rapidly as it expands in retail supermarkets, membership clubs, c-stores, food service, and contract packing.
Donatos was founded in 1963 by Jim Grote, then a 19 year old sophomore at The Ohio State University. From the beginning, Jim built the company on three fundamentals: creating a superior product, hiring great people, and adhering to strong principles that promote goodwill in business and the community. Today, Donatos has 160 restaurants in 7 states. Jim’s daughter, Jane Grote Abell, serves as the Chairman of the parent company, while Tom Krouse serves as President & CEO.
The Grote Company
Driven by the need for a better way to slice and apply pepperoni to his pies, Jim Grote created the Peppamatic, the world’s first pepperoni slicer/applicator, in the late 1960's. He then founded The Grote Company in 1972, which has since established itself as the world leader in slicer/applicator technology.
